Ever since I was in high school, I knew I wanted to be in advertising. I’ve always been the creative type – drawing, painting, photography, sketching, but struggled to find a profession that would merry my right-brained ways (I’ve thought about being an artist, but I don’t think I’m that good enough to be one). Then, career day happened in high school and a spokeswoman of an advertising agency working with Sprite introduced me to the world of advertising.

Right then and there, I knew I was destined to be in the crazy creative selling world.

I started my career in no less than one of the world’s biggest, most respected agencies, Ogilvy and spent 8 years of my life in the PR team. I love PR – the practice hones your storytelling skills. The only way you can truly succeed in the field is to churn out meaningful story angles that the media would write about. It’s not always easy, especially when you’re working with strict corporate brands that have guidelines that basically prevent you from doing your job. I actually found it challenging, finding creative ways to produce engaging content for insurance and banks. It was a game for me. Daily highlights include finding your clients on the front page of a newspaper. I love PR. The only thing that didn’t sit well with me with the practice is not being able to precisely and accurately track performance.

Yes, a positive, glowing review from a top journalist will likely boost your sales but, the question is: exactly how much?

That’s when I explored digital and found my answers. Every single purchase, every single new subscriber, application, app download, can be measured and accounted for.

It was the advertising closure that I needed.

I knew I finally found my place in the vast advertising universe.

The last 5 years, I have been working with both big and small ecommerce brands to help them scale their numbers through Facebook, Instagram and Google. Recently, I said goodbye to working for an agency to working for myself. The move was heavily influenced by my newly minted motherhood role – this is how Miles Digital came about.
